Before you come

Three things worth knowing.

The road

Turn off the tar onto 2km of the historic Seven Passes dirt road, then onto our own road — concrete in most places, steep in a few. Any car makes it; you don't need a 4x4. Go slow, breathe, and we'll see you at the top.

The signal

We're on a hill in a forest, so the Wi-Fi can dip. We've tried every provider going. These days we treat it as part of the offer: connecting by disconnecting.

The waterfall

Nima has direct access into the Wilderness National Park. Kingfisher Waterfall is roughly 40 minutes each way, with a steep 15-minute climb down and back up. Worth every step.

Questions & answers

Everything guests ask us.

Where exactly is Nima Lodge?

Tien Myl Laan, Wilderness, Western Cape — on a hill above the village, bordering the Wilderness National Park. It's a 40-minute drive from George Airport and about 15–20 minutes from Wilderness village and the beach.

Do I need a 4x4 to get up to you?

No. Once you leave the tar there's 2km of the historic Seven Passes dirt road, then a turn onto Tien Myl Laan, which is concrete in most places. We build and maintain it ourselves. It's steep in sections, so if you're not used to rural roads a higher-clearance car is more comfortable — but every kind of car makes it up.

What are check-in and check-out times?

Check-in from 2pm, check-out by 10am. We work on self check-in — just know your cabin number before you arrive. To check out, leave your key in the door and settle the pay-link we email you.

How does payment work?

We use a contactless system: 50% deposit to confirm your booking, and the balance settled via a pay-link sent with your check-in email. Anything from the honesty bar or shop gets tallied and added at the end of your stay.

What's your cancellation policy?

Cancel or transfer less than 30 days before arrival and 50% of the booking total is forfeited. Less than 14 days before arrival and the full booking fee is forfeited.

Is Nima self-catering? Can I get food there?

Yes, every cabin is fully self-catering with a proper equipped kitchen and a braai. You're welcome to bring your own groceries.

We also deliver breakfast baskets, picnic set-ups, snack boards and a dinner basket for two straight to your cabin, and there are excellent restaurants in Wilderness village, 15–20 minutes away.

Which cabin should I book?
  • Sun Cabin — warm, light and romantic. The classic Nima weekend.
  • Sand Cabin — more space and an architectural feel, with an indoor fireplace.
  • Luna Cabin — the honeymoon one: private pool, sauna, hot tub and fire pit, entirely to yourselves.

Message us on WhatsApp and we'll help you choose in a minute or two.

How does the wood-fired hot tub work?

Each tub holds 1500L and takes about two hours to heat. Keep the blue cover on while it heats, start a small fire in the stove with the firelighters and kindling provided, and build it up. Once it's hot, one or two logs at a time keeps it there. Wood and firelighters are provided; extra crates are R75 from the shop, delivered to your cabin. Please don't put soap or bath products in the water.

Is there Wi-Fi?

There is, but the signal can be low depending on weather and our provider — we're rural and on a hill. We've tried a lot of options. Plan for a light connection rather than a video call marathon.

Are children or pets welcome?

Each cabin hosts a maximum of two guests, and we don't allow pets. Nima is built for couples and quiet.

Are the cabins accessible? Are there stairs?

The lodge sits on top of a hill and the Sun Cabins involve stairs. If mobility is a concern, tell us when you book and we'll place you in the cabin that suits you best.

How do I get there without a car?

Uber doesn't operate in the area and Bolt is unreliable. Hiring a car is the easiest option. Otherwise, Wilderness Express is a trusted local shuttle and tour service — JFK on +27 74 977 2215.

Can I fly a drone?

Not over other cabins, the main house, our neighbours' property or the National Park — that's a legal offence. Ask us and we'll point you somewhere it's fine.
